Fiestas Decembrinas

Finalmente llegaron las fiestas decembrinas y nosotros llegamos con ellas a Xalapa:
Lo primero que hicimos fue visitar el barrio de “el dique” para presenciar y ser parte de la mexicanisima tradición de visitar a la virgen de Guadalupe…mientras nos encontrábamos ahí pensaba en que ojala Nancy tuviera la oportunidad de asistir pues culturalmente es algo que representa a la gran mayoría de mexicanos…
entre los miles y miles de peregrinos podíamos ver a niños y niñas en hombros de sus padres, vestidos de inditos , para la virgen… parecía imposible avanzar en ese río de gente, entre enormes coronas, como ofrenda de los muchos grupos que asistían ese día a cantar las mañanitas a la virgen, pero todo estaba tan organizado que se iba avanzando bien…. A los lados, como siempre muchos puestos de comida, juegos y por supuesto imágenes de la virgen donde los niños podían sacarse la tradicional fotografía de esa visita.

Lo que siguió fue la sorpresa a mis padres… ellos no se esperaban vernos en Xalapa en esas fechas… la perfecta oportunidad se presento 2 días después en el cumpleaños de mi sobrina Miriam en donde también vi a Nancy por primera vez después de que nos vimos en Washington…. Aunque hemos estado en contacto através de Skype … fue una grata sorpresa para mis papas… de ahí siguió el cumpleaños de mi hermana Angélica y la organización del 50 aniversario de mis padres…. Asi que estuvimos algo ocupados con los arreglos para tal ocasión. El festejo fue muy familiar pero muy emotivo.

With the arrival of Christmas celebrations we arrived in Xalapa:
The first thing we did was to visit an area called “El Dique” to be present and to be part of one of the moist Mexican traditions : visiting the Guadalupe Virgin ….while we were there I though about Nancy, I hoped she had the opportunity to come and witness such devotion culturally interesting for those who are not Catholic and that represents most mexicans … Among the thousands and thousands of Pilgrims we Could see boys and girls dresden like “inditos” and being carried on their parents shoulders just to see the virgin. … it seemed almost imposible to be able to advance in such a crowd …a mong enormous flower crowns as an offering of the many groups or associations that were there to sing the mananitas to the virgin , but everything was so well organized that we were really getting into the church without a long time to wait .
As usual, on both sides of the streets there were many food stands, games, and of course stands where photographers had beautiful sets with the image of the virgin of Guadalupe where the children could have their pictures taken… traditional souvenirs of their visit on December 12th .

What followed was the surprise for my parents … They did not expect to see us in Xalapa during those days… the opportunity was 2 days latter during mi niece’s birthday party, where I also saw Nancy whom I had not seen since we met in Washington… although we had been in contact through skype .. It was a nice surprise for mi parents … from there we also had mi sister Angelica’s birthday and then the main reason of our trip: my parents 50th wedding anniversary so we were quite busy organizing such celebration … the celebration was very intimate and emmotive
