Asistí a algunas presentaciones escolares de mi sobrina la primera fue en su escuela donde pude verla participar en “la rama” una tradición navideña del 15 al 24 de Diciembre y que poco a poco se esta perdiendo, además, Miriam participo en bailables jarochos típicos como “la bruja” y “la bamba”. Otra presentación fue en el coro al que ella pertenece , etc. Esta es una época en que muchas escuela organizan presentaciones de navidad.
Para cuando llegaron la navidad y año nuevo la pasamos en familia…. En año nuevo mi familia invito a Nancy a pasar la celebración con nosotros … entre la piñata, las 12 uvas y el confeti, creo que la hicimos sentir en familia…..Ahí también Nancy pudo conocer la tradición de “el Viejo” que sale a cantar a las calles anunciando su partida y la llegada del Año Nuevo.
Por cierto...casi olvido mencionar.... el 17 de dic. Cesar y yo visitamos a nancy en su apartamento y aprendimos a hacer unas galletas con figuras tipicas de la navidad... Nancy, recuerda escribirme la receta por favor!
Estuvimos en Xalapa hasta el 7 de Enero así que pudimos compartir con Nancy otra de nuestras tradiciones : la rosca de Reyes…. Acompañada de chocolate y ponche. Y después… de vuelta a Albuquerque.
JUST PARTYING
While in Xalapa I went to some school presentations where my niece took part, the first one was in her primary school where she participated in (for brief video click here)“la rama” a Christmas celebration from Dec 15 to Dec 24th and that unfortunately it is less and less common to see, besides that, Miriam participated in typical jarocho dances like “la bruja” and “la bamba” . Other presentation was the one of her chorus, etc…this is a time when many schools hold their Christmas perfomances.
When Christmas and New Year arrived, we spent that time among family… on new years Eve, my family invited Nancy to celebrate it with us…among the piñata, the 12 grapes and the confetti, I think we made Nancy feel at home… there, she also could see the tradition of “el Viejo” that goes out to the streets singing about his departure and the arrival of the New Year.
By the way... I almost forgot to mention that on december 17th we went to see nancy at her apartment and that she taught us to make some delicious typical Christmas cookies... Nancy please don't forget to give me that recipe!.
We were in Xalapa until January 7th so we could share with nancy one more Mexican tradition: the “rosca de reyes” … accompanied by chocolate and ponche and later… we flew back to Albuquerque
