El hogar del oso “Yogui”
En nuestra ruta hacia White Sands, también pasamos por las montanas en donde vivió el oso Yogui: símbolo de la lucha por la conservación de los bosques… si el oso yogui si existió en las montanas Capitan aquí en Nuevo México. El pequeño oso vivía en el bosque Lincoln National Forest… se encontraba trepado en un árbol, tratando de escapar de un fuego que se origino en 1950, fue rescatado del fuego pero sus pequeñas patas estaban quemadas así que estuvo bajo los cuidados de la familia del guarda bosques que lo rescato y después enviado al Zoológico en Washington DC donde vivió 26 anos mas… a su muerte, el oso fue regresado a las montanas Captain y enterado en lo que ahora es Smokey Bear Historical Park http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/2062/places/3084/ ya convertido en la imagen oficial del guardabosques.
In our route to White Sands, we also passed by the mountains where Smokey the Bear lived. Smokey is the symbol of preservation of the forest… yes, “el oso Yogui” –name given in Spanish- did exist in the Capitan mountains here in New Mexico. As a cub, he lived in the Lincoln National Forest .. he was found on a tree, trying to escape from a fire in 1950 and was recued but his legs were all burned so he was taken care of the ranger that rescued him and his family, and after that, he was sent to the zoo in Washington DC where he lived for 26 more years … when Smokey died, he was taken back to the mountains Captain and buried in what now is the Smokey Bear Historical Park (to se the true story click here : http://www.southernnewmexico.com/Articles/Southeast/Lincoln/Capitan/SmokeyBear.html
